Located here in Avon Lake, Community Resource Service is a community-based organization whose mission is to diminish the effects of poverty in Avon and Avon Lake. They provide basic needs assistance, individual resources, and referral services to those in need. CRS was founded back in 1988 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to address the growing need among community residents for health and welfare assistance. They recognized that there was no other agency in the area equipped to help families facing difficult financial situations for the first time, who were not eligible for government assistance. Since then, CRS has continued to be the primary social service agency in Avon and Avon Lake.
With CRS being the designated emergency food pantry services the area, it is generously supported by donations from individuals, businesses, schools, local churches and civic organizations. Being a member of Second Harvest Food Bank and receiving food grants help to make sure CRS’s shelves stay stocked for those in need. Along with food, CRS’s pantry is also filled with basic needs items and baby items. Seasonal programs that CRS offers help to relieve the financial burden on families during specific times of the year. Such programs consist of Christmas Holiday Assistants Programs, Thanksgiving Food Boxes, Back to School Readiness Program, Easter Baskets and more!
Rockwood Living is proud to support CRS by getting our communities involved in their seasonal programs. We have hosted multiple drives over the holidays as well as during the back to school season. Rockwood Living and our communities have donated over 500 items to the CRS pantry! We appreciate all the efforts CRS puts towards helping our community.
